Jason & Nashwan on a Thursday!
Too long has it been since these gents lit up the taproom. Jason brings the broad acoustic circus from funk to folk to rock and blues. Nashwan elevates it all with his violin and then leaves the crowd speechless once in a while. That's the gist of it. It's some of the finest live music you can hear anywhere. And, as always, free of charge and first come-first served on the seating. This will be an indoor show. But, weather permitting we will of course have the porch set up and windows open. Still a lot of beautiful evenings left before win--- nevermind. Hooray for beer and music! Always in season!

Pirates Riglet Park Event

Hey kids! Come try snowboarding this summer at a Pirates Riglet Park event! Our team of Snow Pros bring our specially-designed riglet park equipment to an event near you, allowing you to feel the sensation of snowboarding without the snow!

The Pirates Riglet Park events are FREE and are intended for children ages 4-7 and weigh under 60 pounds.

During this brief introduction to snowboarding, you’ll be greeted by our friendly staff, measured for the right-sized equipment and then you’ll be ready for the fun!

You’ll start your Pirates Riglet Park experience on a wiggle board to feel the motion of the snowboard itself and then progress to a specially-designed Riglet Park snowboard.

Instructors help keep you balanced while you are being pulled through multiple features inside the Pirates Riglet Park. You will go up and down three small rollers, make your way through various obstacles, take batting practice and finish off your Riglet experience by throwing a few pitches to the catcher, Francisco Cervelli.

Jeff Miller: Nashville Loopist
Jeff Miller has made a career out of doing what he loves. A talented songwriter and extremely gifted guitarist, Jeff has recorded several albums and tours the country playing his utterly unique brand of acoustic pop using a technique called "live-looping".

So what is live-looping? Basically, it’s a process by which a player can record a musical phrase live, in front of an audience, and immediately play it back in repetition. While this phrase continues to repeat, the player can record another loop to layer over the original. This process can be repeated multiple times, creating dense, layered compositions mimicking the sound of multiple musicians and backing vocalists.

You have to see it to believe it...

WYEP - "Gaining a reputation for being a fantastic live band is one thing, but Pittsburgh rock group Bindley Hardware Co. has managed to translate their energetic live performances to tape.

“We try to do most of our recording as live as possible, so the success of the live shows is able to translate to our recordings. It’s not always an easy thing to do. I don’t think we always get it down. Anytime you can translate the live vibe onto recording, even just to get the sound of the air in the room somehow into the recording so it’s not sterile, you want that.”

Rock Photo: Music for a Great Cause
Here's the scoop:
Kevin Stiffler is a local photographer who has generously taken and shared awesome photos of local musicians over the years. Some of those musicians have gone on to accomplish pretty great things. When those musicians heard that Kevin had an apartment fire and was hurting for camera equipment, they decided to do something about it... like throw a big old concert and raise money to help Kevin. The Six and The Wooly Coats, with members of Pittsburgh rock groups, The Clarks, Sun King Warriors, Rusted Root, The Hawkeyes and Remaining Green will play in a few configurations. (It's NOT going to be a boring night.)

Here's the list of players...

The Wooly Coats
Jay Wiley (The Hawkeyes)
Dave Minarik (The Clarks)
Rob James (The Clarks)
Noah Minarik
Jeff Wiley

The Six
Rob James (The Clarks)
Greg Joseph (The Clarks)
Chuck Olson
Jim Donovan (Sun King Warriors/Rusted Root)

Weather-permitting, we'll set this gig up outside in the parking lot. Inside otherwise. There are $10 tickets for sale (proceeds go to Kevin AND guarantee you a spot inside if it comes to that).

Wishbone Ash, one of the most influential guitar bands in the history of rock, will offer their North American fans a dynamic concert experience on the 2017 “Tough & Tender” Tour. In addition to the high-powered, all-out rockers the band is known for delivering, the guys will turn down the volume (but not the intensity) and treat audiences to acoustic versions of some of their classic hits.
“A great song is a great song, however it's delivered,” says bandleader Andy Powell (guitar, lead vocals). “Playing acoustically allows people to hear the 'bones' of a song and how it might have been conceived in the first place.”
Formed in 1969, Wishbone Ash finds itself in rare company these days. Not many bands are still going strong after nearly 50 years. It takes a serious lifetime of commitment to the craft of making music; but, more importantly, real skill is required to navigate the shifting seas of the music industry, and few know that better than Powell.
“We laid down strong musical roots in the '70s, and these roots continue to prove productive,” he says. “Also, we nurtured our fan base as much as possible through fan club conventions, newsletters and the like; but this was all given a great boost once the digital age came into being, with websites and social media.”
Through the years the band has delved into various musical genres, from folk, blues and jazz to pedal-to-the-metal rock and electronica. Whatever the style, Wishbone Ash’s hallmark is the distinctive twin-melodic lead guitar interplay that has influenced such bands as Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden and, more recently, Opeth.
True road warriors, each year the band logs around 30,000 miles, roughly equivalent to circumnavigating the earth.
“The hours, days and weeks we spend touring and recording results in a close-knit group, for sure,” says Powell. “It allows us to bring a level of intensity to the table that people seem to pick up on and appreciate.”
The fruitful results of near-constant touring are evident on the latest DVD release, “Live in Paris,” recorded in May 2015 during a three-day residency at Le Triton Theatre in Les Lilas, Paris.
Powell says, “We recorded three nights of material, including current versions of some classic songs, plus some deep tracks that people won't necessarily expect.”
The band recently released a four-disc “Road Works” box set, a compilation of four separate shows recorded in Germany and the UK.
In October 2015, Powell completed his autobiography, “Eyes Wide Open: True Tales of a Wishbone Ash Warrior,” co-written with Irish music journalist Colin Harper. The book, published by Jawbone Press, has met with public and critical acclaim.
“Our concept was to root my musical story and that of the band's to the times in which I came of age,” says Powell. “That is to say, relating it to those times, decade by decade, so that the reader could get a picture of how I was impacted by the social and musical trends and how I weathered those changes. We also wanted to keep it breezy and poke a little fun at this music game at the same time.”
In addition to the “Tough & Tender” Tour, Fall 2017 will also see the release of a 32-CD deluxe box set, “Wishbone Ash – The Vintage Years,” on Snapper Music.
There is no other rock band in history that has done more with the twin guitar concept than The Ash. Be sure to catch them on tour this September. Tour dates and more information can be found at www.wishboneash.com.

9pm Jimbo and the Soupbones

At the core of this Soupbone collective is singer/songwriter/guitarist James “JIMBO” Jackson. Everything about this man is big. His body, his voice, and most importantly, his stage presence. With charisma to spare, he is the quintessential frontman. Having been raised on a diverse blend of music ranging from seventies soul artists like; Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye to folk artists such as James Taylor and Jim Croce, The result is a curiously unique voice that is powerful yet remains pleasant and familiar. As the bands songwriter, he lets no lyrical rules govern. Tragic and often humorous stories and songs are written with specific intentions. From the unsure fathers perspective on “What kinda Daddy” to the festive nonsense of “I would eat a bug for you”, the purpose of each song is evident.

Guitarist Jason Caliguri began displaying his guitar skills at 11 years old. Mentored by local blues/jazz legend Larry Belli, Jason was heavily influenced by guitar greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Hendrix and George Benson. He has since grown into one of Pittsburgh’s most capable and versatile lead guitarists. His timing and taste keep the music tight, though his real talents are showcased through his soulful and astounding solos. He acts as the perfect bookend that keeps The Soupbones spirited show balanced.

The funky grooves that this band delivers could not be attained without bassist Phil Wilkerson. A bass scholar with no formal training, he commands the bottom end. His love of jazz and funk manifests itself through precise bass lines that are fun, funky and easy to listen to. He is the rock in the rhythm section that every good bands needs.

Nicholas Tolkacevic speaks softly and carries big drumsticks. He comfortably layers intricate rock, funk and hip hop beats to create a style of his own. He effortlessly handles the daunting task of keeping time in a band with extreme dynamics and frequent tempo changes.

Percussionist Nate Vagias is the multi-instrumentalist with all the toys. His wide array of music makers coupled with his ability to manipulate them compliment the Soupbone sound and keep everything grounded. He is a musician that becomes one with the tools of his craft. His tribal vibes are thoughtful, intricate and contagious.

Brit Floyd

The hotly anticipated rock event of the year returns, as Brit Floyd brings the music of Pink Floyd to life once again with its lavish new stage show, ‘Pink Floyd Immersion World Tour 2017’. The spectacle of a Pink Floyd concert experience is truly recaptured in high-definition sound, and with a stunning million dollar light show and state of the art video design.

As well as performing the favourite moments from The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and The Division BellBrit Floyd will also pay special tribute to the Animals album, in its 40th anniversary year, with a show stopping rendition of ‘Dogs’, as well as a host of other Pink Floyd musical gems. The Brit Floyd show has truly become a phenomenon, widely regarded as the world’s greatest live tribute to Pink Floyd. Faithfully recreating the scale and pomp of the final 1994 Division Bell tour, complete with circle screen and multiple moving light design, lasers, inflatables and theatrics, a Brit Floyd show really is as close as fans will ever get to experiencing the magnificence of a Pink Floyd show live.   More than a tribute, it’s as good as they say. Believe the hype and don’t miss it!  The new ‘Pink Floyd Immersion’ show promises to be Brit Floyd’s most ambitious and best production yet.

Murder Mystery at the Grand Midway Hotel
You have discovered a most unique Murder Mystery evening... You've driven to the small town of Windber, Pennsylvania. You've enjoyed your dinner at one of the local restaurants or charming taverns. Just as you try to leave town your car breaks down curiously outside the renowned Grand Midway Hotel which appeared on the Syfy Channel's Haunted Collector for its extreme paranormal activity... It is 8pm. You knock on the door to ask for help and are invited inside only to discover several other guests experiencing a similar Twilight Zone evening. There is a creepy hotel butler, hotel photographer, cook, bartender, magician, gypsy tarot reader, and others lurking around. The photogrpher takes your picture. The gypsy offers you a tarot reading. The staff allows you to tour the entire haunted hotel from room to room, through secret bookshelf door passageways, from the terrifying Canopy Room to the upstairs Vampire Suite with it's secret hidden Coffin Room. You also get an exclusive peek at the Guinness World Record Largest Ouija Board in the World resting on the hotel roof. But there is a problem. A guest is suddenly murdered! Then another! Then another!

Beatrix Potter's Christmas The Tailor of Gloucester
When a poppycock mayor orders a cherry-colored coat for his Christmas wedding, the poor Tailor of Gloucester works his fingers to the bone. All goes well until the tailor realizes he lacks the piece of twisted silk needed to sew on the final button. But it is Christmas Eve, that one blessed night when animals are granted the gift of speech. Simpkin the cat and the house mice become steadfast friends and work together to complete a coat that leaves the bedazzled Mayor—and Simpkin and his mice— speechless for a miraculously happy ending on Christmas Day.
